Sushmit is an Academy Award nominated director-producer. He has to his credit, several award-winning films, many of which are being used globally as education and social impact tools. A PGA and IDA nominee, he is also the winner of the National Film Award of India, and his work is supported by the Sundance Institute, IDFA, the Bertha Foundation, Doc Society, the Tribeca Film Institute, Chicken & Egg Pictures, Sorfond and The Finnish Film Foundation. His interest lies using new technologies and creative strategies to enhance both the visibility and impact that storytelling can create in the digital era.
 Sushmit runs Black Ticket Films with Rintu Thomas. Black Ticket Films is a multi-award-winning film production agency that was founded in 2009 with the vision to create engaging and powerful content that has the ability to inform, entertain and impact social change. It has been recognized for creating films with a unique visual language. The media company has produced and directed films that explore issues of gender and sexuality, HIV AIDS, street children, disability, maternal and child health and environment. Its films have been screened at various international film festivals and leading television networks as well as global platforms like the U Convention on Climate change. These films are also used by various development sector organizations and governments, as advocacy and public engagement tools. In 2013, a Black Ticket Film documentary, Timbaktu, bagged the National Award for Best Environment Film.
